The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* credit card is the “go big or go home” travel card for Air Canada lovers. If you’re a frequent flyer, this credit card will level-up your entire travel experience to VIP status. The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* has one of the highest base earn rates for rewards on purchases, helping you earn even more Champagne trips at beer prices, or entirely free! The welcome offer plus other card perks give you up to $2,700 worth of benefits in the first year alone.

But free travel might actually be one of the less impressive perks of this card. From booking to baggage claim, the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* gives you priority status at the airport, a free checked bag, and special access to lounges. Your points can pay for your Amazon.ca purchases, your morning double-shot on ice at Starbucks, or even help send your kids to college! Explore everything this power-house card has to offer in our full review.

    A three-step welcome offer

    [Offer productType=”CreditCard” api_id=”5faebd6ecee9031232939393″ id=”256911″]

Right now, TD is offering a generous welcome offer for those who apply by March 4, 2024. You could earn up to 75,000 bonus Aeroplan points in the first year. Once you make a first purchase with your TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* card, TD will credit your Aeroplan member account with 20,000 bonus points.

Next, you can earn another 30,000 bonus Aeroplan points when you spend $10,000 on your card within the first 180 days (roughly 6 months) of opening your account. For a premium travel card, that’s low-hanging fruit. Your monthly grocery bill alone could probably meet that spending requirement in 6 months.

Finally, you could earn another 25,000 bonus points if your account is open and active for 12 consecutive months and you make $15,000 net purchases on the card within the first 365 days. Your account must be in good standing.

You also get this great stuff:

    • Nexus members get their application fee rebated every 4 years (48 months)
    • First check bag is free for you and up to 8 travel companions
    • Unlimited access to Maple Leaf Lounges including complimentary access for one guest
    • Primary cardholders get 6 complimentary worldwide select airport lounge visits annually through the Visa Airport Companion Program

Perks & Benefits of the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card

Because many of those perks relate to travel, we can say that this credit card is also one of the best travel credit cards in Canada.

    What are Aeroplan Points?

Aeroplan is the loyalty program owned and offered by Air Canada. Aeroplan points can be used to book flights with Air Canada and partner airlines. There are no blackout dates or seat restrictions, and any Air Canada seat that can be purchased with cash can also be purchased with your Aeroplan points. Points can also be used for things like seat upgrades and in-flight Wi-Fi.

Aeroplan points do not restrict you to plane tickets. They can also be redeemed for vacation packages, hotel rooms, rental cars, merchandise in the Aeroplan eStore, and even gift cards. As with all travel rewards credit cards, you’ll get the best redemption value when you redeem points for flights.

Earning points with your TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* is one of the best travel cards in Canada with an aggressive base earn rate that is higher than some of its competitors. You earn 1.25 Aeroplan points for every $1 charged to your card. There are also accelerated points categories that earn even more points per $1 on certain types of purchases.

Eligible gas, groceries, travel, and dining purchases earn 1.5 points per $1. Purchases made directly with Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations get you the highest earn rate of 2 points per $1.

There is a maximum annual spending limit of $100,000 combined across all the accelerated points categories. Once you hit the annual spend limit, the earn rate drops to 1.25 Aeroplan points per $1. However, there is no limit to the total amount of Aeroplan points you can accumulate.

    Double-up your points

Yes! You can actually double the points you earn on eligible purchases. When shopping with an Aeroplan partner merchant, provide your Aeroplan membership number at the time of purchase and pay with your TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card

Aeroplan is one of the best travel rewards loyalty programs in Canada with over 150 partner merchants and over 200 online partner retailers. Here are a few of the most popular retailers where you can double-dip your points:

    Bonus points at Starbucks!

Through TD EasyWeb or the TD app, add Starbucks to your TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* card from the list of partners. Then, open your Starbucks Rewards app and add your card. Use your TD card to pay your Starbucks coffee. Eligible purchases earn both 50% more Starbucks Stars and 50% more Aeroplan points!

    Shop the Aeroplan eStore

Aeroplan is partnered with over 200 online retailers and they often run bonus-point promotions through the Aeroplan eStore. If you have to make a big purchase, like a new computer or BBQ, check out the eStore first. You could snag that item for the same price you would have paid in person, but get significantly more points than you would have otherwise.

Promotions have been known to offer up to 10x the Aeroplan points. At the time of writing, there was an offer of up to 5x the points on selected electronics during the “Tech Event”.

    Additional cardholders

For $199 per year, you can add an authorized user to your TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* credit card to earn points on their purchases too. Once you add a cardholder, make sure they have an Aeroplan member account and link it to their card. They can also access some of the travel benefits as the primary cardholder even if they aren’t travelling with you.

    The Aeroplan Family Sharing feature!

Aeroplan recently launched a new Aeroplan Family Sharing feature that allows up to 8 Aeroplan members to connect their accounts to a shared balance. Both existing and earned points are then added to the shared balance.

From there, authorized family members can redeem points for travel and other rewards. If someone in the group has Aeroplan Elite Status, everyone benefits from those exclusive perks too.

    Buy, transfer, and give points

The Aeroplan program allows you to buy Aeroplan points for cash to top up your account. You can also transfer points between Aeroplan members for a fee.

Saving for that big family trip to the happiest place on earth? Instead of birthday or holiday gifts, you can ask loved ones to buy you Aeroplan points!

    Convert points from other programs

Yep, you read that right. You can convert points from other loyalty programs into Aeroplan points. Each loyalty program has a different conversion ratio, so pay attention to make sure you’re getting the best bang for your points. Loyalty points that can be swapped include, but are not limited to:

    • American Express Membership Rewards
    • Best Western Rewards
    • Hilton Honors Points
    • And more!

Redeeming points with your TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card

Aeroplan points have the best redemption value when redeemed for travel directly through Air Canada. But the points don’t have a fixed value. Aeroplan uses dynamic pricing which means the redemption value of your points will vary depending on where you’re going, where you’re leaving from, distance, and type of seat.

Points can also vary based on demand. To get the best value for your points, you’ll need to plan carefully, pay close attention to the details, and have your calculator handy. You can also redeem your Aeroplan points for:

    • Seat upgrades
    • In-flight Wi-Fi
    • Hotels
    • Rental cars
    • Vacation packages
    • Merchandise
    • Gift cards
    • Experiences
    • Donations to a charitable organization
    • Starbucks purchases
    • Amazon.ca purchases

    Attention parents!

You can redeem your Aeroplan points to help your kids pay for college! Aeroplan and the HigherEdPoints program let you purchase education credits for students, like your child or someone you love. Students can use education credits to pay down their federal/provincial student loans or to cover the cost of tuition at a participating institution. You’ll need 35,000 Aeroplan points to get a $250 credit.

Rates & fees on the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card

The interest rates of this card are standard on purchases and cash advances. Quebec residents may be subject to different rates. But you should probably sit down for the annual fee. This is a premium rewards credit card with an aggressive base earn rate, many insurance benefits, and tons of additional perks.

The annual fee comes in at a whopping $599 for the primary cardholder and $199 for an additional cardholder. Yes, it’s a steep fee. But the insurance benefits and additional perks you get in return are almost unmatched.

The Aeroplan program is arguably the best travel rewards program in Canada for frequent fliers, and the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* is one of the best Aeroplan credit cards in Canada, too. Points can be redeemed through Air Canada which is the largest airline carrier in the country. And they can also be redeemed on partner airlines.

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* card unlocks white-glove perks not available on other TD Aeroplan cards. According to the TD website, the welcome bonus points, additional travel benefits, and other discounts come to an eye-popping $2,700 value.

Are you eligible for the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card?

Premium rewards cards are typically harder to qualify for, and the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* is no exception. To be eligible for this card, you need to have an annual personal income of at least $150,000, or an annual household income of at least $200,000. That alone puts this travel card out of reach for the average Canadian.

You also need to be a permanent resident of Canada and the age of majority in the province or territory where you live. Generally, you need to have a good credit score to qualify for a premium card.  To lower the risk of rejection, the higher the score the better. Having said that, approval is never guaranteed and your application requires a hard credit check

    Who is this card for?

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* card is definitely designed for high-income frequent fliers who prefer Air Canada. Several travel cards cater to this group, but the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* card makes it easier to earn Aeroplan points on essential purchases like gas, groceries, and Air Canada travel.

Not only that, but this card has one of the highest base earn rates on all card purchases outside the accelerated points purchase categories. For travel addicts, the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* offers an incredibly robust suite of travel insurances with higher-than-average coverage amounts.

This card is the perfect fit for Air Canada lovers who prefer the finer things in life, first-class treatment, and stress-free travel from start to finish.
